Professor David Shmoys

Professor David Shmoys holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. He held postdoctoral positions at MSRI in Berkeley and Harvard University, and a faculty position at MIT before joining the Cornell faculty.

With extensive experience in combinatorial optimization, he specializes in designing algorithms for scheduling, facility location, and NP-hard problems using linear programming relaxations and approximation techniques. His work spans both academic research and real-world applications in diverse fields such as sustainability, logistics, genomics, medical scheduling, conservation planning, and network design.
